With morning showers around Melbourne it looked as though it was going to be a wet event, but luckily they passed in the afternoon, which allowed for good conditions for participants to navigate their way around Westgate Park. A tick over 100 participants attended the Westgate Park event organised by MFR.
61 runners entered the Mo Farah course and tried to catch the early time recorded by Brodie Nankervis of 13:23, which only Bruce Arthur could better by 3 seconds. Bryan Keely (13:48) came 3rd ahead of Aaron Dodd. Bruce holds on to the Yellow Jersey for now, although it will be a close finish once Bryan and Brodie record their 6th event. The Women’s overall standings couldn’t be any closer with only 4 points separating Lanita Steer, Asha Steer and Laurina Neumann. Brodie won the Sprint leg ahead of Shane Mallia and Carl Dalheim, while the Hillclimb leg resulted in a 3-way tie between Brodie, Shane and James Robertson. Jordan Hirst has lost both the Green and Polka Dot Jerseys after missing the event. Bruce leads both Jerseys from Tim Hatley (2nd in Green) and Lanita (2nd in Polka Dot).
Max Dalheim won his second Sally Pearson course in a row, in a lightning quick time of 11:44. Janine Steer (13:31) was second ahead of Geoff Armstrong (13:57) in third place. Max took out both the Sprint and Hillclimb legs. Ryan Davies and Janine finished second and third in the Sprint, Janine and Felix Pirie finishing second and third in the Hillclimb. Janine maintains her lead in the Yellow Jersey ahead of Dennis Mews and Max. Max leads the Green Jersey ahead of Janine and Philippa Lohmeyer-Collins, while he leads the Polka Dot Jersey in front of Janine and Dennis.
Mason Arthur was the master of the Usain Bolt course, navigating his way around in 11 minutes and 48 seconds. Just under 3 minutes slower was Torren Arthur (14:44), while Peter Beggs claimed third spot in a time of 16 minutes and 37 seconds. The Sprint leg provided a surprising result with Sarah Davies pipping Lachlan Alonso and Mason Arthur. Mason restored things to their natural order in the Hillclimb in front of Campbell James and Peter Beggs. Pat Mews leads the overall standings ahead of Sarah Davies and Christine Palmer in the Womens category. Mason Arthur leads the Yellow Jersey ahead of Torren Arthur and Peter Beggs. The Green Jersey standings sees Mason at the top again in front of Torren, and Pat and Peter tied for third place. No surprise that Mason is leading the race for the Polka Dot Jersey in front of Torren and Peter.
